The Voice of God

     A Facebook friendship with a man my age, Martin McDaniel, who had terminal cancer compelled me to write the words to Voice of God.  He passed away in February 2011.  I am blessed to have known his courage and faith.  And I am so thankful he was able to hear the final recording of “Voice of God” and see how it was being played across the country before he passed.  Life has many twists, shifts, and turns.  And especially in the most difficult of times, if we uncover our ears, we can hear loudest and clearest The Voice of God.

Sheltering Tree 

     This song is near and dear to my heart. It is inspired by a mission trip I took to Soroti, Uganda in 2003 during a time of great upheaval in the northern tribal areas. The Lord’s Resistance Army (A terrorist group) was ravaging, killing, raping, and mutilating villagers in northern Uganda. These villagers fled to Soroti for refuge. There were literally tens of thousands of villagers huddled under large trees all over the town. It was unbelievable. And there was this one particularly huge tree in the area we were working that caught my attention. And this song is about that tree.

This Day

     It was time to write a song that expresses how I feel on sunny days when I get in my car and just ride.  Too often I get wrapped up in chasing my tail at work or worrying about the most recent passing problem. So I wrote This Day to remind me to never stop appreciating the little things in life that God places along my path daily.  I hope it helps others open their eyes to God’s blessings we sometimes take for granted.

Not About You  

     Paul said, For by grace are you saved by faith, and that not of yourselves. It is a gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8). You see? Salvation is not about you. I wanted to write this song to encourage those Christians who live in fear of not meriting Jesus’; love. We all fall into that trap sometimes. But rest in assurance that God does the saving. All you did was to recognize you needed Him and that He was capable of saving you. He does the rest. Be encouraged! Not About You.

A Disciple’s Song 

     Have you ever wondered what Peter’s true feelings were after hearing that his master, Jesus Christ, would be crucified and then watching it unfold right before his eyes? This song tries to explore what Peter was thinking during this time. He didn’t want to see his Lord die. I just wanted to examine Peter’s humanity in a different way.
